Sad to say we do have litter problems here in our green and pleasant land, but things are better than they used to be before we had local amenity sites.
Now we can take old cookers, washing machines and the like to these centres for disposal or recycling.
Before such sites were made available by the Local Authority, these items plus old sofas, bikes and prams could be found regularly in hedges and ditches throughout the countryside.
So now it is much better in terms of large items, but the menace of litter in towns and at the roadside remains.
Yesterday morning in our local market town of Shrewsbury I saw a group of people including a man wearing a chain of office - yes he must have been the Mayor - picking up and bagging litter.
Then by coincidence a Twitter contact sent me a link proving that this wasn’t just an isolated incident.
It seems that youngsters throughout the country are attacking the litter problem.
Good for them – what a great example to us all.
You’ll find them here. http://tiny.cc/2j5pr
Many good, hard-working young people are blamed, along with the minority of troublemakers, for so many of our problems, when the reality can be so different.
There’s the proof!
So come on England, let’s hear those cheers.
