Daddy, I Want To Come See You

“Daddy, I really want to see you.  I really need to come see you.”

The call came in around 3:30 on a Friday afternoon.

“Buddy, you have your camping trip this weekend.”

“I don’t want to go camping.  I want to come see you.”

And just like that, the entire weekend plans were scrapped for the biggest priority in life after God himself…

It can be very easy in our world to get priorities out of order.  We’ll set up things for our weekend that we can’t get done during the work week.  Oil change.  Car repair.  Lawn mowing.  Fix the porch.  A long walk since you haven’t been able to exercise as much this week.  Perhaps even a leisurely dinner out to unwind.

We think after a hard work week that we should have “our” time to do what we want to do.

Yet our time isn’t ours.

It’s God’s.

We need to always be open to the thing that God wants to do in our life and make sure that our priorities are His priorities. That means we need to look at our spouse and place them in a priority place.  Our children need to be a priority.

We have to get to a place where we can look at something most people would call a “curveball” and see it as God knowing what we need in life more than we know it.  God knew that my son needed me and I needed time with Him.  He arranged it to happen when it wasn’t scheduled to be there.

And it was a huge blessing.

Do you find it hard to change plans that you’ve put in place when God brings something to you at the last minute?
