Some time ago I wanted to experiment with food. I do not have any formal training with cooking, and my last name hardly signifies my talents. But I do like to eat food, and I like being creative. Hence, the birth of my meatloaf.
The first time I made meatloaf, I basically threw everything in I could think of—or that was available. I knew that meat was required, but beyond that I really did not know what else was supposed to be in the meatloaf. I had seasoned crackers, molasses, celery, dried mustard powder, oil, sour cream, and oregano. So that’s what I put into the meat and threw it in the oven for approximately 30 minutes at 400 degrees.
Admittedly, it surprised me with how good it tasted, but the real test was whether my wife would like it. Fortunately for me, I got an “A” grade and she brags about my meatloaf all the time, and asks me when I’m going to cook it again. I love making her meatloaf.
A successful marriage is about simple things. Like meatloaf. You take what you have and do your best with it to make your spouse happy. Each time, like my own undocumented recipe, it will likely turn out a little differently, but in the end you’ll have something worth cheering over.
